Expanding clean water access in Tabakoro

Tabakoro, a rural community of 10,000 residents and 1,200 students, faced severe water shortages, with its shallow well contaminated by bacteria and drying up during the summer. Villagers had to walk miles daily for water, putting their health and livelihoods at risk.

To address this, the Mali Wellness Foundation installed a 244-foot deep well system that ensures a year-round supply of clean, potable water. Equipped with advanced filtration and powered by four solar panels, the well system includes a 5,000-gallon storage tank and can produce up to 10,800 liters of water per hour. Two water spigots were installed in the schoolyard and throughout the community to provide easy access to safe drinking water. A local Water Committee now manages the system’s upkeep, ensuring long-term sustainability for Tabakoro’s water needs.
