Our Work

The Mali Wellness Foundation is built on 4 pillars of health and wellness:

  • Water Treatment

  • Sanitary Restroom Development

  • Crop Production

  • Healthcare

New water treatment system

Water Treatment

Over 7 million people in rural Mali don’t have access to a clean, reliable water source. Contaminated water is linked to the transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. We treat contaminated well-water in remote villages with simple but effective water purification systems. These systems are assembled on site and local Malians are taught the needed maintenance skills to sustain their own village’s water supply.

Sanitary Restroom Development

When human excreta seeps into community water sources, dangerous pathogen-based diseases can be transmitted. These diseases, caused by poor drainage, primarily affect children in developing countries like Mali. We connect hand sinks to the clean water systems to help prevent the spread of disease. We also build functional, sanitary restrooms and treat the sludge that commonly contaminates ground and well water. We then teach villagers proper hygiene techniques that significantly impact their health and productivity.

Crop Production

Many Malian families are affected by food insecurity: over 29 percent of Mali’s population is malnourished. We offer agricultural education, tools, equipment, irrigation techniques, suitable seeds, and fertilizers. These resources allow Malians to not only gain a greater crop yield but to create reliable, self-sustaining food sources.

Healthcare

Because of the sparse healthcare facilities in Mali, many Malians must walk 10 -30 miles to reach the nearest health clinic. We bring life-altering healthcare services (eye care, ear health, feminine health, etc.) directly to remote Malian communities—considerably improving the quality of life in rural Mali.
