Kemogola's enhanced access to healthcare supplies
Kemogola is a remote village situated in southern Mali, home to approximately 3,100 residents, including 176 students across three classrooms. The village faced significant challenges in maternal and child health, with many pregnant women lacking understanding of proper nutrition. This knowledge gap contributed to alarmingly high infant mortality rates, with many babies not surviving past their first year.
To address these critical health issues, the Mali Wellness Foundation implemented an educational program focused on proper nutrition and childbirth preparation for expectant mothers. Each mother received prenatal vitamins with instructions to take one capsule daily, helping to ensure healthier pregnancies. Additionally, vision screenings and ear cleanings were provided to villagers in need, improving overall community health.
Basic sanitation practices were largely absent; villagers had no access to restrooms and resorted to using the wild bush for hygiene. To enhance sanitary conditions, the Mali Wellness Foundation drilled a deep well equipped with a state-of-the-art filtration system to provide pure, potable water for both the school and the village. Community members were trained in essential practices such as clean water management, food preparation, handwashing, and other sanitation methods, leading to improved health and well-being for all.
