Kemogola

Provide villagers with increased health through eye, ear, and feminine hygiene care

Kemogolas’s growing public access to healthcare supplies

Kemogola is a remote village located in southern Mali. There are roughly 3,100 villagers, including three classrooms of 176 students.

Maternal health was not understood among pregnant women in the village, and they did not receive the nutrients they need from their diet.  Mortality rates in Kemogola were considerably high among babies under the age of one.  The Mali Wellness Foundation educated them on proper nutrition and preparation for childbirth. They also distributed prenatal vitamins to each mother and instructed them to take one capsule per day. Vision screenings and ear cleanings were also conducted for villagers in need.

Basic principles of sanitation were not taught or practiced. They had no restrooms and used wild bush for wiping. The Mali Wellness Foundation improved sanitary conditions by drilling a deep well system that included a newly designed filtration system to maintain pure, potable water for both the school and the village. All were trained in basic clean water, food preparation, hand washing and other sanitary practices.
