Dossola

Provide villagers with increased health through eye, ear, and feminine hygiene care

Dossola’s growing public access to healthcare supplies

Dossola is a remote village about 16 kilometers south of the capitol city, Bamako. There are roughly 4,200 villagers, including 325 students. Maternal health was not understood among pregnant women in the village, and they did not receive the nutrients they need from their diet. The infant mortality rate is around 50%.

The Mali Wellness Foundation educated the women on proper nutrition and preparation for childbirth. They also distributed prenatal vitamins to each mother and instructed them to take one capsule per day. Vision screenings were conducted to test villagers for cataracts and poor vision. Those individuals were invited to receive cataract surgery in October of 2022.

The village built a chicken house, and the Mali Wellness Foundation provided 200 chicks, feeders, and vaccinations. Villagers were trained to run and maintain a small chicken business.
