Dossola's growing nourishment through drip-line irrigation

Dossola is a remote village located just 16 kilometers south of the capital city, Bamako, with approximately 4,200 residents, including 325 students. The community previously faced significant challenges in accessing basic nutrition.

To address this issue, the Mali Wellness Foundation drilled a 240-foot deep well that provides a consistent supply of water, even during the dry summer months. The well is equipped with an advanced filtration system that ensures the delivery of pure, potable water for both the school and the village. This system connects to a drip-line irrigation setup that effectively waters the community vegetable garden, supplying essential meal supplementation to the villagers. Each row of the garden features individual valves, allowing for precise control over water flow.

Villagers received training on planting and maintaining a variety of crops, including green beans, tomatoes, squash, okra, cucumbers, beets, carrots, lettuce, and watermelon. Additionally, four banana trees were planted, further enhancing the community’s nutritional resources.
