Enhancing health & education in Binabougou

Binabougou, a remote village located three kilometers north of Bamako, is home to about 3,500 residents, including 931 elementary and middle school students. In Mali, less than 20% of girls in villages advance to secondary education, largely due to the lack of access to feminine hygiene products.

To improve overall health and address these challenges, the Mali Wellness Foundation distributed hygiene kits to every student, containing essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloths, and soap. Each student also received training on personal hygiene practices to promote better health. Additionally, the foundation conducted eye and ear care screenings to further enhance the well-being of the villagers.

In an effort to boost female student attendance and ensure girls feel confident and prepared at school, each girl over the age of 11 received a Days for Girls kit. A certified health instructor provided education on menstrual hygiene and demonstrated how to use and reuse the kits. By addressing critical health needs and empowering young girls, the foundation has helped create a healthier, more resilient community.
