Mounzoun's improved access to clean water
Mounzoun, a remote village located 35 kilometers south of Bamako, is home to approximately 3,100 residents, including 720 elementary and middle school students. Previously, the school relied on a malfunctioning shallow well, forcing students to walk to a nearby village for water, which was often contaminated with Coliform bacteria.
To address this urgent need, the Mali Wellness Foundation drilled a deep well system at a depth of 350 feet, ensuring a reliable supply of clean water year-round. This system features an advanced filtration setup that provides pure, potable water for both the school and the surrounding community. A 1,500-gallon storage tank sits atop a 20-foot tower, while four solar panels power the submersible pump at the well’s base. To enhance accessibility, five water spigots were installed throughout the school, giving students easy access to safe drinking water and significantly improving their overall health and well-being.
