Mounzoun's enhanced access to nourishment
Mounzoun, a remote village located 35 kilometers south of Bamako, is home to approximately 3,100 residents, including 720 elementary and middle school students. To combat nutritional challenges, the Mali Wellness Foundation drilled a 350-foot deep well that ensures a reliable water supply year-round, even during the dry season. This well is equipped with a state-of-the-art filtration system, providing pure, potable water for both the school and the surrounding community.
The water is connected to a drip-line irrigation system that nourishes the school’s vegetable garden, offering essential meal supplementation for hundreds of students. Villagers received training on planting and maintaining crops such as onions, carrots, squash, and beets, empowering them to enhance their nutritional health and foster sustainable agricultural practices.
