Moussadiabougou's enhanced access to clean water
Moussadiabougou, a small village of 1,800 residents located 77 kilometers (48 miles) southwest of Bamako, faced significant challenges with water quality due to its shallow wells, averaging less than 6 meters (20 feet) deep. Contaminated by rain and surface runoff, these wells posed serious health risks to the community.
In response, the Mali Wellness Foundation drilled a 67-meter (220-foot) deep well and installed a solar-powered pump connected to a 5,000-liter (1,320-gallon) storage tank. Capable of pumping 10,800 liters (2,853 gallons) of water per hour, this system ensures a reliable supply of clean water. Two strategically placed water spigots now provide villagers with easy access to safe water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene. Additionally, the foundation conducted a water education seminar to promote healthy practices within the community.
