Mounzoun

Our goal is to provide schools with solar power so they are not limited to classroom time dependent on the sun.

Mounzouns’s growing access to better nourishment

Mounzoun is a remote village about 35 kilometers south of the capitol city, Bamako. There are roughly 3,100 villagers, including 720 elementary and middle school students.

The Mali Wellness Foundation drilled a deep well system (350 feet) that does not dry up in the summer months. The system includes a newly designed filtration system to ensure pure, potable water for both the school and the nearby village. The well connects to a drip-line irrigation system bringing water to the school vegetable garden which provides meal supplementation for hundreds of students.

Villagers were trained to plant onions, carrots, squash, and beets, and to maintain the garden drip-line irrigation system.
