Sanitation Project

Binabougou

Provide access to sanitation tools

Binabougou’s growing public access to clean water.

Binabougou is a remote village about three kilometers north of the capitol city, Bamako. There are roughly 3,500 villagers, including 931 elementary and middle school students. Basic principles of sanitation were not taught or practiced.

The Mali Wellness Foundation improved sanitary conditions by drilling a deep well system that does not dry up in the summer months. The system included a newly designed filtration system to maintain pure, potable water for both the school and the nearby village. Eight restroom stalls with toilets and hand sinks were installed. Villagers were trained in basic clean water, food preparation, hand washing and other sanitary practices.
